HIV Here & Now

HIV Here & Now

I’m proud my poem “3 1/2 Love Sonnets” was selected as today’s poem in the HIV Here & Now series, a 365-day countdown in poems to the 35th anniversary of the acknowledgement of the pandemic that would later become known as AIDS.

The poem was first published in my debut collection Talking in the Dark, and concerns the experience of having a friend tell me he was HIV+. Written when I was 18, it was actually one of two poems that first caught the attention of my publisher in 2001.
